WHAT IS LEVEL A?
A Level is an education offered to students aged 16-19 who are pursuing secondary and pre-university education in the UK education system. After 2 years of study, a student can transfer directly to a university offering departments related to the courses taken.
Duration: The duration of this program is two years. In total, a student must complete at least 3 courses during the course of study. Usually, 4-5 courses are taught. The education received in the first year of study corresponds to the AS level, that is, the Advanced Subsidiary Level. Students who successfully complete this program can apply to the best universities in England, receiving the A Level qualification at the end of the second year of study.
In which countries is the level valid?
This program is most famous in England, Australia and New Zealand, which are close to the British education. Students who complete A Level in England have the opportunity to study at the most reputable universities in England, such as Oxford and Cambridge, as well as all other universities in the UK.
Why A-Level?
According to the English education system, a student who has completed secondary school in Turkmenistan is not eligible to enter a university and must undergo additional preparation to determine which university he or she can study at. For this reason, students who have completed secondary school in Turkmenistan must first complete a foundation course for one year in order to obtain higher education in England and countries close to the British education system. A-Level opens the doors to top British universities for students, including Oxford and Cambridge. Because these two universities do not accept students who have transferred from the Foundation Year program, called Bridge Year. Only students who have completed A Level and IB can enter these universities.
The process of the A-Level program:
The A-Level consists of two stages and 6 units. The duration of the program is 2 years. The program is offered to students only by colleges. This program is not offered by universities. Within the program, you can take a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 courses. Students can choose any subject related to science, literature, natural sciences, social sciences and arts. However, to study at a good university and in a good department, it is necessary to take courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology for natural sciences, medicine and engineering; for business, humanities and law, it is necessary to take courses in mathematics, accounting, economics, psychology and English literature.
Overseas students gain the right to apply to universities in the UK by passing AS (Advanced Subsidiary Level) in the first year of study and A Level in the second year of study. In both years (AS Level and A Level), students must take the same courses. Students are advised to choose four courses in the first year of study and three courses in the second year of study. In addition to the student`s performance during the course, students must take an exam at the end of the year, i.e. in June. Students who fail this exam are given the right to take the exam again in January. Students must have passed grades in 3 or 4 years.
UCAS (University and College Admissions Service) helps students to apply to universities in the UK correctly. UCAS is a university and college careers service. UCAS offers students the right choice of university based on the quality of their application, advises them on how to make a successful application and provides students with information about institutions. Students can choose up to 5 universities/faculties when applying to UCAS. UCAS applications are submitted online by our advisers.
